Quiet weekend

Ahhhhhhh....... the sound of silence.  The Dawn's World version of the Sound of Silence, anyway.  That, folks, is what is going on here this weekend!  Since approximately 5:20 a.m. yesterday  morning, I have been  home alone.  (A scary event, I  know, but so far so good!)

Of course, me  being home alone only means that I'm here without human companionship.  And the Sound of Silence means that the only human voices here are mine  (singing loudly and badly to loud and good music), the tv, or voices singing from whatever type of music might be playing  (loudly).  Oh, and I do "occasionally" talk to the animals.  : )

Yesterday, I was tired.  Friday night, at about 8 p.m., Jordan magically appeared with a bag of dirty laundry that HAD to be clean and ready to go at that 5:20 a.m. early, early hour on Saturday.  Jordan had been sick for 2 days and had to be on the road at that 5:20a.m. hour with Show Choir, so he wasn't going to be the one staying up to get that laundry done.  ("Mom, I started my laundry, but the white shirt on top of the washer has a stain that needs to come out.  Where is that stuff?"  My reply...... "Where are the half dozen other, identical white shirts that I've bought you so that we don't have this laundry issue???"  answer....... "Somewhere.....".  Sigh)

Since I have a dryer that works for the electric company, helping them to make record setting profits on my electric bill, getting laundry done in a hurry here just doesn't happen.  It was 1 a.m. before that last, small, load of Jordan laundry was in the dryer (for the first time) and headed off to try to get some sleep.  The alarm was going to go off at the pre-Me time of 4:30 a.m.  (Get it???  Pre-me??  hehee  Pre-Dawn!!  hmmmmm.... perhaps I still need more sleep!)  Sure enough, that last load had to have another go round in the electric guzzling machine before it was dry enough for Jordan to wear out and about.

We did, however, make it out the door in time for him to catch the bus and ride off into the sunrise with Show Choir.  I, on the other hand, rode back home, where I was wide awake (of course) and didn't follow through with my plan to snuggle back into my bed.  Instead, I was awake for a few hours, before taking a nap!  Just enough to keep me going through the rest of the day.

I did go across the way and have a yummmmmmy Mushroom tart with my mama last night for supper.  Thanks Mom!  We made some plans for a vacation this summer.  : )  Looking forward greatly to that!  Gonna be so much fun.

I did some sewing yesterday.  That was fun.  I hadn't sewn in quite a while.  I got some things sewn up and put together.  Without managing to run a needle through my fingers or anything!  Yeah me!  Blood stained fabric is not my favorite type to work with.  I need to become a lot more acquainted with my sewing machine and a lot less friendly with that darn dryer!  The sewing machine is a whole lot more fun.  : )

I slept great last night!  Even with 2 cats trying to  hog my pillows and 2 dogs thinking that they had to guard both sides of the floor beside the bed.  As sweet as that was/is, and it really is sweet, I need animals that snore less!  The only one who doesn't snore is Jojo, the younger cat.  I don't know if its because the other 3 critters are getting up there in age or what, but goodness!  My sound of silence was pretty well broken by the snores and snorts and whimpers and yips and yaps and other various and assorted noised created by the (small) herd of critters keeping me company last night!  And Taltos, the cat who has been with me for more than 7 years and is at least 9 years old, has decided that one of his favorite night time activities is to sit beside my head, as I sleep, and lick my head.  Now, think about that.  Dogs lick.  (Except for Chester.  He's not much of a licker.  If you get a Chester kiss, you have been quite blessed indeed!)  Cats, as a general rule, do not lick people.  I don't know if Taltos has decided that I need him to help to groom me while I'm sleeping or perhaps he has decided that he truly likes my raging bed head hair in the mornings and is simply trying to ensure that my hair is helped in it's anti-gravity, morning acrobatics, by plenty of cat saliva.  I don't know.  What I do know is that having a cat, with it's rough, sandpaperish tongue, lick your head in the night is not a pleasant experience.  However, I do love the cat to pieces and he's been with me through a lot.  I'll put up with his hair styling attempts, but I may start shutting my bedroom door at night more often than I do now.... keeping the (small) herd of snoring, snorting, yelping, yapping, snuggling, grooming critters at bay!

I'm still home alone today.  No school tomorrow for the boys, so they may not come back until tomorrow.  That would make for another full day of Dawn's Sound of Silence.  I'm sure that the neighbors are thankful that it's not warm enough out for my windows to be open.  Spares them from the sound of my singing..... loudly and badly.  Some of my neighbors might actually like their silence to be silent!

So.  I'm off to church, then to enjoy the rest of whatever this day brings my way.  I think I'll make a date with the sewing machine for later.   I think I'll skip the cat saliva salon treatment and jump right to fighting with the greedy dryer for fun after bit.  Who knows, I might even, gasp, have a true moment of Silence around here at some point and time.  Wouldn't that be sumthin'???

  1. How about wearing some kind of head gear? Like a ski cap...anything to cover your head! Of course with all that noise shutting the bedroom door might be the better choice. I'd love to have my puppy in the room with me but need my sleep more!
Know that the Lord is always with you, wrapping His loving arms around you and holding on tight! Praying right now!
Psalms 18:2-6 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Psalms 18:30-32 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Psalms 31:5, 7-8 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth (7-8) I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

Psalms 36:5-7 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

  6. What amazing words of comfort. Praying!
Isaiah 40:28-31 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalms 116:1-5 I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

Romans 8:15-18 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour. In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
