Y'all know how I roll. Never a dull moment and all that stuff. And organized! Oh yes! We all know how "organized" I am! HA! I do try. Sometimes it works. Most of the time organization escapes me. There are times that I think that I'm organized and prepared and have things all set so that events will go smoothly. All I got to say about that is that it's a good thing that the people around me are patient and understanding and like to laugh.... a lot! : )
Take last weekend, for instance. It was wedding dress shopping weekend. I had plans for the boys. I made the motel reservation. Mom and Amber and I had coordinated our departure time to head to Iowa City. Heck, I even knew what the schedule for Sunday, on the way home, was. Now folks, that is darn good for me!
To help me in my weekend preparedness, I lined up the neighbor boys to take care of the dogs for Mom and I. Chief was going to come spend the time with Chester and Buddy and the nice neighbors were going to take them outside to do their business several times while we were gone. I, don't be too darn shocked here, even took the keys to the nice neighbors, so that they could get into the house and let the dogs out into the great outdoors so that they could do their business. I moved the cats and their "stuff" upstairs and shut the doors, so that they couldn't escape when the neighbors came to let the dogs out. I was sooooooo organized!
For some reason, at the last moment, before walking out the door Sat. morning, I took a folding table and a book shelf and sealed the door between the kitchen and the "ditchen". (Do y'all remember what the ditchen is? The extra room between the kitchen and the dining room!) I never lock the dogs up like that. They already couldn't get upstairs, but for some reason I decided that having 3 dogs in the house warranted a little extra precaution. (Even more preparedness!)
So, the dogs were settled, the cats were settled, the neighbors were ready, and Mom and I headed to Amber's and then on to Iowa City. Such a relief to leave for Wedding Dress shopping weekend feeling so organized and prepared! : )
We were at the first wedding dress trying on appointment when my phone rang. It was the nice neighbors. They couldn't get into the house. I'd given them two keys. One to the deadlock on the back door and one to the door handle on the back door. I only locked the door handle on the way out. Sigh. The keys weren't working to let them into the house. They could get the deadbolt to lock and unlock, but not the door handle. They tried. And they worked at it. They called me and they felt badly and all because organization and preparedness are not my strong suit. Sigh. I locked the lock that I didn't give them a key to. So, use the front door, right?! Obviously I'd given them the key to the front door and not the back door! However, being the oh so organized person that I am, I locked the screen door on the front of the house, so that it would swing loose in any wind that might blow our way while we were gone. I have never locked that stinkin' door before. Good grief.
At least there was the fact that I had shut the dogs off from all of the rooms with the hardwood floors. They were confined to linoleum. They had food and water and were safe and warm. I was just going to have to clean up some messes when I got home. My fault. My messes to clean!
We got home, got in the house, and were greeted by 3 anxious, happy to see us dogs. Buddy and Chester ran right outside and did their business. Chief was too busy saying "hi" to everyone to do any serious business right away. I walked into the house, prepared for the worst, and what I found amazed me! There was one pile, one small pile, obviously from Chief, and two puddles. Large puddles, but only 2 of them. I was amazed! Those dogs lasted more than 24 hours without going outside and that is all of the damage that they did! A few paper towels and my Swiffer Wet Sweeper/Mop and we were in good shape! Just let me insert right now that I have the bestest doggies in the whole world! They got some extra treats and a few extra trips outside yesterday! Such good, good dogs! : )
Other than that snafu of mime, the weekend was great. A dress was purchased. It took a lot of looking and trying on to find "the" dress, but Amy did it! There were 12 of us hanging out, looking at dresses, laughing, enjoying the experience and good company. It was an amazing day! An awesome weekend. A great time spent with family and friends. The Joy of the Wedding has begun. : )
Today, it's snowing here in the River Hills. It's a pretty snow. It's not really sticking on the streets and sidewalks. It's not too cold and the wind isn't blowing. I'm happy in my chair, for a while, watching the snow, burning some candles, snuggling with Taltos. It's a good day after a good weekend, all just part of a good life. I am blessed with the people around me and the life that I have. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. For every person who has touched my heart, you are my Valentine.
Blessings and Love to all of you.
On the scale of things that have gone wrong...that wasn't all that bad. The dogs survived, your house survived! It's all good!
ReplyDeleteContinuing to pray!!!!
Psalms 46:7, 10-11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.(10-11) Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
The greatest comfort we can ever have is knowing that the Holy Spirit Himself is praying!
ReplyDeleteRomans 8:26-28 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Still praying hard in Seattle!
ReplyDeletePsalms 31:1-3 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
That captcha thing or whatever it's call is killin' me! Used to only be on webshots cards I send out (did I ever ask if you wanted to be on the list? They contain a portion of a Psalm and a N.T. passage). Anyway, several days ago blogger and blogspot decided that they needed to go from just writing random letters to the full captcha which I have the hardest time reading! But I will persevere! They will not win!

Psalms 31:5, 7-8 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth (7-8) I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
