I have no one but myself to blame for interrupted sleep. To be more precise, I have my soft heart to blame. I'm not complaining too loudly tho, because interrupted sleep has led to wonderful, warm snuggles on a chilly Sunday morning!
The other day when Candice was down for a visit, she was talking about Eric's beagle, Copper. Copper was a gift from Candice to Eric late last summer. When Eric was on a regular work schedule and Candice was pregnant. But, even then, Copper didn't really sync with the other dogs. He was hard to house break, in fact, he never really did get the hang of it. Copper was meant to be a hunting dog. That is what he was born for and what the intention was when he was purchased. Copper is a beagle. An adorable, sweet fella. Who won't listen when you call him and refuses to be house broken. And who was way too much for Candice to handle while Eric is off in Wyoming playing with trains (smile) and she is dealing with a pretty nauseating pregnancy.
So, I made mention of the fact that they do have breed specific rescue programs for dogs. I volunteered to see what I could find out about a Beagle rescue program. Yesterday I was driving by the Humane Society and stopped to talk to them, to see if they had information about a rescue program for Copper. It seems that they do have information, but, more importantly, they had a person looking for a young hunting dog! I called Candice, who called Eric, who called me, who called Candice... which led to me driving up to get Copper and bring him to the Keokuk Humane Society and get him hooked up with a new owner. (Big Smile here!!)
As I was talking to Candice the last time, before heading up to get Copper, she told me that I should feel free to take the little, black dog who was hanging out with Copper in the outdoor kennel. (Candice wasn't home during any of these conversations.) Seems that Candice's heart is as soft as mine. Her brother had a dog, a little dachshund, who didn't get along with his new wife's son. That meant that the poor little dog had to go. He went to Candice's mom's house, but they have a Mastiff. The little dachshund growled at the Mastiff. And ended up in the outdoor kennel at Candice's with Copper.
Now, my main intent was to get Copper and make a run for it. I should have known better. I could not leave that little shivering dachshund alone in that outdoor kennel and drive off into the sunset. Sigh. I called Candice. And brought the little guy home with me. Sigh.
After a mishap in the car, resulting in me having to change clothes once I was home, things have gone quite well. There hasn't been a fight or a growl or an accident. The cats are tolerating him and he pretty well ignores them. The only one who seems really put out is Buddy, and that is understandable! You think he'd be used to critters coming and going around here, but he does get his feelings hurt! Since the new little guy (I can't for the life of me remember at all what Candice told me his name is. I've been calling him Junior.) is such a snuggler, Buddy is hiding and pouting. I'll give him some special attention and a treat later and Buddy and I will have a make up snuggle!
In the mean time, Junior spent the night UNDER the blankets with me, in my bed. He woke me up twice to go outside, but I'm happy that he woke me up and didn't make a mess! Now, he is snuggled up beside me here in the recliner. Keeping me warm this morning.
"Junior" is truly a sweet dog! Obviously he doesn't do well with small children who hit him, but I don't do well with small children who hit me either! He is housebroken, listens better than Copper, and man does this dog like to Snuggle!!!! He's about 2 years old, neutered, had all of his shots, and, yes, I'm advertising. I'd love to keep him, but if I can find him a good home, where he doesn't have to share snuggle time with a Buddy, that would be just awesome! He would be a terrific companion for someone who needs a snuggle pal. : )
In other news, it is Super Bowl Sunday, and yes, I am planning on watching the game! Jonah has had a list on his IPod for a couple of weeks now, for groceries for the game. He's more interested in the game food than the game, but at least he's interested! He and I went shopping yesterday and stocked up. Mom is coming over to watch with us. Maybe Junior can snuggle with her and Buddy and I can make up! : ) Lots to do between now and then, but it sure is nice to sit here for a while now, with this warm little body cuddled up beside of me. It's gonna be a wonderful day!!!
Hope you can find a special home for Junior! As for Copper...the whole problem is he didn't have his friend Todd with him! You know...Todd the fox...

Psalms 130:1-2, 5-7 Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications (5-7) I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
Know that the Lord is always with you, wrapping His loving arms around you and holding on tight! Praying right now!
ReplyDeletePsalms 18:2-6 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
Still laughing that your mom took him!

Psalms 18:28-30 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
