I have some pretty cool memories of birthdays. The early one's are probably all jumbled together or based on photos, but hey! they are good memories, so I'm sure not going to question them! : )
For early birthdays I remember going sledding once on my birthday. Remember the metal round sleds? I'm having a moment and can't remember what the real name was, but I sure do remember having one! We went out to McKinley (sp) Park in Creston and went sledding. I don't remember who all was there, if I had friends along or not, but I do remember my Uncle Glenn. Uncle Glenn is a tall, large man. Those metal round sleds weren't very big! What I remember is Uncle Glenn coming down the hill and spinning out. And losing his glasses in the snow! And laughter. I don't remember much else from that birthday, but I do still get a chuckle out of that memory (true memory or not!) of Uncle Glenn on that sled!
I remember a birthday when I was a Brownie and all the little girls at my party were also Brownies.
I remember a birthday cake that my aunt made for me that was a doll. There was a barbie-type doll standing and her huge skirt was the cake! It was awesome.
I remember going on a church retreat on my birthday weekend. Lots of sledding and ice skating. And I got a package of KoolAide as a gag gift!
I remember turning 16. Some of you reading this might also remember when I turned 16. My friends threw me a surprise party! My parents took me out to eat and when we came home my friends had decorated the house, brought a cake, party supplies and we had a party. I think that the only casualties of that party were a couple of exploded pillows from the couch! Ooops!
I remember the green M&M cake that Aunt Marj made for me when I was in high school.
There was another surprise party when I turned 30.
I "ran away" for the day when I turned 40. Didn't much want anything to do with that birthday!
I've had lots of wonderful birthdays! And some that didn't live up to expectations. But, here I am, about to enjoy another celebration of my birth. I have a family that is awesome. My mom is my hero. My kids are amazing people.I have a husband that loves me. A new grand baby on the way. I new son-in-law on the way. I have friends that absolutely rock! I'm CANCER FREE!!! I love my job. I'm "home". And I'm going to have a fantastic celebration of my birth today. Life is great!
This made me cry! Hope you really did have a very special day! I was supposed to be born today...guess I didn't want to come out because I wasn't born for 10 more days!
ReplyDeleteKnow that you're always in my thoughts and prayers!
Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Praying!
ReplyDeletePhilippians 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Know that I'm still here praying!
ReplyDeletePsalms 40:1-4a I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust...
