Day number 2 of Wedding week isn't over yet, but it's been a busy day already! I'm hoping that there is some relaxation in the forecast for this evening!
There wasn't a soon to be bride to be seen here today, but all 4 of her siblings were making up any difference that made. I got off of work and came home, to see Eric's car sitting behind Mom's house, but Mom's car wasn't there. So, I called the boy, to see where he was. Figures.... while I was "slaving away" at work, Granny and the Four Amigos were hitting the links. They were nice enough to invite me out to have some lunch with them... as they were on a "golf break". (They obviously take to heart the rumor that golf is a "relaxing" sport! They were certainly relaxing around a table of food and soft drinks when I found them!)
I went to the golf course, thinking I was going for lunch. In my flip flops. Flip. Flop. After lunch, Granny and the Four Amigos talked me into hitting the links with them. In. My. Flip. Flops.
Now, I haven't golfed on a regular basis since high school. I was pretty good, back in the day. Now, well, flip flops are not going to make much of a difference in my ability to golf a good game! I gave it a try. We were playing a form of Best Ball..... boys against the girls, of course. Granny golfs on a more than regular basis in the warm weather months. She's a regular links regular! Tournaments and the whole shebang. Eric goes golfing now and then and good grief can that boy hit the ball! Not much for direction, but distance, well, he's got us all beat there! Amy golfs with Granny a couple of times a year. She can hit a good wallop now and then, but she's really not any better than the rest of us (except for Granny) at that directional thing.
The boys, well the boys are, ummmmmm, I guess I can only describe their golfing abilities as "very beginner". Goodness. Granny got them each a set of clubs last spring, so that she could take them golfing with her. Jordan had to be different and just had to be a lefty.....now that adds a whole 'nother dimension to the term "beginning golfer"! At least it does in our family! Each of the boys can, occasionally, smack the ball from here to there, but most of the time it goes sideways. (Of course, I do have to say that the only one who hit the outhouse today was Eric, something which I'm pretty sure he is never going to live down!)
I managed 2 holes and teeing off on the 3rd, before this flip flop golfer had to give it up! I then got to be an "official" golf cart driver. Believe me, it is much more relaxing to be the "official" golf cart driver than it is to be the flip flop golfer! Especially when you are a really bad flip flop golfer.
Believe it or not, the boys against girls best ball game ended in a tie. The boys had the length in hits, but no control at all. Amy had Granny and her golfing experience. My two holes of playing with the girls was not enough to cause them to lose! Yeah! I think that a tie during wedding week is just how it should have ended, and so it did.
Of course, the very, very, very best part of this day was being on the links with the Four Amigos and Granny. With our Sponge Bob golf balls, 50 year old golf clubs (Eric is using my dad's old set), hitting balls into fare ways far and near, laughing and yelling and giggling and whooooping it up..... well, I'm sure the other golfers were glad to see us end our game and vacate the links. However, it was an awesome day, spent enjoying my kids and my mom. Getting some more laughter and memories out of Wedding Week. I kind of like this when Amber, Eric, and Amy are all on vacation at the same time..... and are all hanging around here.
We haven't yet had all 5 of the kids in the same place at the same time this week, but we will, and even before rehearsal on Friday! The Fam will start showing up on Thurs..... the first one's rolling in from Colorado.... so my big ol' table will be full of us all. And all 5 of my kids will be gathered together for the first time this week. I'm not sure there is anything better than Wedding Week. And we are truly just getting started! : )
I really never understood golf...but hey! Whatever makes you happy and helps you relax and get through this week!
ReplyDeleteThe passage today is a little different. But the way I look at it, life itself is a battle and the Lord doesn't change. He was with the Israelites as they headed into the Promised Land, and He's with you, helping you and giving you strength to face whatever lies ahead. Always here praying!
Deuteronomy 20:1-4: When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
