How many of you out there remember this picture??
To refresh.... A couple of months after I moved back to Keokuk, I went out to go to work one morning and when I tired to start my car, this is what happened. Half of my key stuck in the ignition and the other half was left hanging on my key chain. It took me a little while, but I got the hang of starting my car with half the key in the ignition and half of the key on my key chain. I could master perfectly, usually, lining up the two parts of the keys and I could make the car start. Presto. I had my own "security" system! : )
I have no good explanation as to why I didn't go have the broken key in the ignition problem fixed. I could make the car work just fine. The set up wasn't bothering me one iota. When I got my car worked on, oil changes, etc., no mechanic or technician ever had a problem starting the car either.
So, then one day I got a different car. Since Jordan will be turning 16 this summer, it was decided to save the old car for him. Of course, as much as he drove that car, with me along, he never could get the darn thing started. : ) Another reason why I kind of liked me being the only one (usually) who could start the car. No teenagers were going to go joy riding in that car!
Then the car was moved to Jordan's dad's acreage. Jordan and his dad were going to "work" on the car. Do routine maintenance, spruce it up a bit. Oh, and fix the broken key in the ignition issue. On my end, the car was out of sight, out of mind! That broken key thing still wasn't bothering me a bit!
A little while ago my phone rang. It was Jordan. "Mom, how do you start this car??" I didn't have the magic answer. Line up the two parts of the keys, turn the ignition, and start the car. I don't know how I did it, I just did it.
The car still isn't running. I told them that I would start it on Sunday when I drive up to get Jordan. Unless, of course, they fix it before then! ; ) I feel so special that I can do something that almost no one else can! Whooot! heheee ........ The Special Talents of Dawn the broken key car starter. Everyone has to have something to make them stand out from the crowd. I do believe I've found my "something"!
This is so funny! I remember when you did it. They couldn't get the piece out of the ignition? A new key's going to cost a fortune, right?
