Expanding our Horizons

The group from our Fine Arts Educational tour 2011.

I think that my Mom has decided that the family here needs some education in the fine arts.  I'm not complaining!  Quite the opposite.  It's wonderful!  And fun.  Educating our family in fine arts involves road trips and motel rooms and laughter and fun.  Plus, we get to expand our horizons by the fine arts events that we attend.

Last year, around Thanksgiving time, she bought us all tickets to see Wicked in Des Moines.  It was amazing!  And we had an awesome time!  Such a good time, in fact, that we are going to pile into the cars tomorrow morning and head back to Des Moines for some more fine arts education.

Last year, we ended up with a couple of tickets that family members couldn't use.  Duty called in the working world.  So, this year, if your job involves travel... like working for the railroad or driving a truck.... you are going to miss out on your yearly horizon expanding.  The rest of us..... Mom, Amber, Candice, Jordan, Jonah and I will head to Des Moines, where we will meet up with Amy and Chris.  We will venture to the Wells Fargo Arena to be educated by Cirque Du Soleil.  I know that there are many versions of Cirque Du Soleil that travel and I do not know which show we will be seeing.  I don't really care!  I'm prepared to be amazed and awed and to have my fine arts education expanded greatly!  In fact, I'm ver much looking forward to it!

Tonight, I get to expand my horizons a bit by going to out to eat with the office folks.  We are going to Quincy, IL, where we will dine at Tiramisu.  I'm sure that the food will be wonderful and I know that the company will be great!

On Sunday, weather and travel allowing, the boys and I will be heading up to Webster City, where we will hopefully get to enjoy some Christmas spirit with the family up there.  My car will be loaded with suitcases and gifts!  It's been fun shopping for all of the grandkids this year!  Can't wait until they open them.  And by next year, Parker will be really into opening gifts!  More and more to look forward to!  : )

So there ya go.  I'm going to spend my weekend expanding my fine arts horizons, enjoying some fine dining, and listening to grandkids have a joyful Christmas.  Then it will be home again, for traditional Christmas Eve activities of church and oyster stew.  Yum!  Everyone will be here, hopefully, on Christmas afternoon.  By then I will be tired of expanding my horizons and will be ready to just have fun!  Perhaps a "snowball fight" with discarded wrapping paper?  Taking pics of the 5 kids all together.  Parker!!!!!!  I'm sure there will be card playing and games and fun to be had by everyone.  The next four days look to be amazingly wonderful.

Merry Christmas and Blessings to you all!!!!

  1. What a wonderful weekend! We had a birthday party with the whole family last night for Emma (turned 8) then they all came back this morning for our family gift opening. It was the only time we could all get together. I B so tired already!
May your roots go down deep into the Lord and His Word. Continuing in prayer!
Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

  2. Did you get a turn on Santa's lap? What did you ask for for Christmas?
We have eyewitness testimony of the Savior. What comfort this gives in time of need! Praying!
1 John 1:1-4 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

  3. Merry Christmas, dear friend!
We have hope because of a babe born in Bethlehem. Praying!
Luke 2:1-14 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Psalms 61:1-4 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

  5. Still here praying hard!
Psalms 40:1-4a I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust...

Psalms 23:1-3 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Psalms 23:4-6 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Revelation 21:1-4 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Revelation 21:5-7 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

  18. The only refuge we ever need in any storm! Praying as always!
Psalms 46:1-5 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

Psalms 130:1-2, 5-7 Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications (5-7) I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

Romans 8:35, 37-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?...Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
