Happy Thanksgiving 2012

Wow.  It's been 2 months since I updated this blog. Where has the time gone?  Now, all of a sudden, it's Thanksgiving today.  Today.  Right now.  Millions of pounds of turkey are being roasted and fried and eaten.  Bushels of potatoes are being boiled and mashed and devoured.  The vast array of food varieties being cooked and consumed today is mind boggling!  Seriously mind boggling.  Deliciously mind boggling!  : )

For the first time, in what seems like eons, I'm not involved in any form of cooking and baking today.  Nope.  It's Thanksgiving and I'm sitting in the recliner, watching NCIS reruns, wearing my sweats and a bathrobe.  There is no turkey cooking in the kitchen, no taters to be mashed, no nuthin' to be done in the way of cooking.  I am being lazy this morning.  Later, in a couple of hours, we are going to load up in the car, the boys and my Mom and I, and head to Burlington.   We are going to the movies.  Such Thanksgiving Day excitement!  I'm sure we'll have our own version of Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving, as I'm darn sure there will be popcorn involved!  : )

Later still there is going to be football.  I might get to yell at the tv some, groan and cheer.... and I don't even really care who wins!  Football on Thanksgiving is rooted in some of my oldest Thanksgiving Day memories.  Of course, back then it was college football.  We were in Lincoln Nebraska at a family Thanksgiving the first time I remember realizing the concept of rivalries and fans.  And we put a rival team bumper sticker on my Uncle Glenn's car!  Ahhh... such wonderful Thanksgiving Day memories.

I've got oodles and oodles and oodles of Thanksgiving memories, as I'm sure the majority of American's do.  Both good and not so good.  From snow storms to broken plumbing to half turkeys instead of whole ones, to memories of family and friends and love and blessings beyond measure.  Thanksgiving Day is awesome and wonderful and full of memories to last several generations of life times.

But, Thanksgiving isn't just a day.  It's a feeling and a gathering, a time of blessings and joy and togetherness.  So, while the vast majority of the American population is celebrating and pigging out today, we are enjoying being lazy and having a very low key kind of day.

Tomorrow.  Now, tomorrow is going to be another kind of day.  Tomorrow I will not be sitting in the recliner watching reruns as the day rolls by.  Tomorrow I will be cooking.  There will be music filling the air in my kitchen, mixing with the aroma of turkey and all the fixings.  (I can visualize music notes swirling in the air, intertwined with steamy aromas from food, filling the spaces in my kitchen with darn good stuff!)  I honestly love cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I love the work and the messiness.  I love the smells and the sounds and the fact that I'm a procrastinator, so in my house, it all gets done at once.  That's me.  That's how I roll and cook and how it will be done tomorrow.

And then, when the cooking is done.  After I've worked all day.  When the windows in the house are covered in steam and the music notes have filtered far and wide, then I can take my weary self and sit at my extra large table with my family.  While we will not all be here tomorrow, most of us will.  Those that will be missing will still be with us in their own ways.  Parker will get to join us for the first time.  What a blessing that is!  I will sit at my table, with my family, and enjoy the fruits of our labors.  There will be laughter and joy and love beyond measure.  I am blessed.

While you enjoy your Thanksgiving, which ever day you celebrate, may your blessings and love be beyond measure.  May music and laughter and joy fill the air.  May you have food to fill your bellies, as love fills your hearts.  Happy, happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Life can seem so overwhelming at times. God can seem so very far away. He's always there, especially when the times are the hardest! Praying!
Psalms 13:1-6 How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? ... Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, ... But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

Psalms 63:5-8 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. 7. As Advent begins we're reminded that we have hope because that babe in a manger grew up and died for our salvation! Praying!
Galatians 4:4-6 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

  8. Living in Seattle you have to deal with a lot of storms. Living, you have to deal with a lot of storms. What a blessing we have an anchor no matter how bad the storms get!
Hebrews 6:17-20a Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus...

Habakkuk 3:17-19 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places...
