In case you can't quite make it out, Parker's outfit up there says "Grandma is simply the best". I didn't even buy it for him! : ) It was quite nice of him to wear it for my mom and I, though.
Then, since Parker is a baby and Aunt Amy isn't used to changing a lot of diapers, Parker had to change clothes. Can you guess who got into the diaper bag and picked out the 2nd outfit of the day?? Yup! That would be this Iowa Hawkeye Grandma! Of course, there was already talk to Eric taking Parker to his first Iowa game. I can tell that I've taught my children well about who to be a fan of in the college football world! : )
Parker still looks so tiny to me! He was one day shy of being a month old in these pictures. The only one of my children that he weighs more than they did at birth is Amber. He isn't as large as the other 4 at their birth weights yet. He is darn stinkin' cute and sweet and awesome, though.
The real reason for the gathering last Sunday was that it was Candice's birthday. GreatMa and Jonah fixed up the cake. And all of the candles got lit before the lighter gave out!
Parker wasn't really much help while his mom was trying to blow out the candles. He was wide awake, though, and his Mom wanted him there with her! (Did I mention that he is darn stinkin' cute?!)
Look at this wide awake fella. His hair isn't quite brown or red, more of a brownish-reddish. He's rockin' that Iowa outfit and hanging out with us all. He certainly is more alert now than he was even a week ago. Let the good times roll!
After the birthday gathering the week got a whole lot more complicated. Sunday night Bruce ended up in the hospital, getting blood transfusions. They determined on Monday that he had several peptic ulcers and that they had been bleeding. They did a GI scope and a couple of biopsies Monday afternoon. He was able to get out of the Keokuk hospital on Tues. evening. Thursday we were at the VA clinic and hospital in Iowa City, where we learned absolutely nothing. Except that dealing with the VA is frustrating.
Bruce does have to be back at the VA Hospital this coming Tuesday. They are going to scope him again and most likely take their own biopsies. I doubt if we will learn anything new at all then, but at least it's something hopefully headed in the right direction for an answer and healing. (We are looking for answers about what caused the ulcers and clarifying the biopsies that were done in Keokuk).
As it looks to be another crazy, busy week, consider that no news is good news! Thankfully, school hasn't started yet, though Jordan is involved in marching band activities already. I'm pretty sure we can handle that schedule! I hope!
Thats about it from me today. It truly has been a very long week and I'm tired. Not as tired as Bruce is, but I am tired. I may not leave the house today, except for when the doggies need to visit the great outdoors, aka the back yard.
I would greatly appreciate keeping Bruce in your prayers, especially on Tues. Thanks so much.
Dawn
I'm really feeling this hymn tonight and wanted to share the whole thing with you. Praying hard!
ReplyDelete1. I'm but a stranger here,
Heav'n is my home;
Earth is a desert dread,
Heav'n is my home.
Danger and sorrow stand
Round me on every hand;
Heav'n is my fatherland,
Heav'n is my home.
2. What though the tempest rage,
Heav'n is my home;
Short is my pilgrimage,
Heav'n is my home;
And time's wild wintry blast
Soon shall be overpast;
I shall reach home at last,
Heav'n is my home.
3. There at my Savior's side
Heav'n is my home;
I shall be glorified,
Heav'n is my home;
There are the good and blest,
Those I love most and best;
And there I, too, shall rest,
Heav'n is my home.
4. Therefore I murmur not,
Heav'n is my home;
Whate'er my earthly lot,
Heav'n is my home;
And I shall surely stand
There at my Lord's right hand.
Heav'n is my fatherland,
Heav'n is my home.

I saw an eagle while I was out walking today so had to share this passage. Praying!
ReplyDeleteIsaiah 40:28-31 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

What comfort these words give! Praying in Seattle!
ReplyDeletePsalms 23:1-6 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

We have an anchor in every storm! Praying!
ReplyDeleteHebrews 6:17-20 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

So many times it can seem like nobody understands...Jesus understands! Praying!
ReplyDeleteHebrews 2:9-10 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Continuing to lift up prayers!
ReplyDeletePsalms 71:1-3 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me. Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.

ReplyDeletePsalms 71:12, 14-16 O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help...But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof. I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.

ReplyDeleteJeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

ReplyDeleteHebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

ReplyDelete2 Samuel 22:2-3, 7 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. (7) In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

ReplyDelete2 Samuel 22:29-33 For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God? God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
