That is my mom, wearing the nail/work apron that I made her for our Mother's Day adventure. You may all think that we were a bit nuts to choose to work on Mother's Day, but that is exactly what we did. Amy works for AmeriCorps, but is assigned to Habitat for Humanity. She works at the ReStore in Iowa City and also helps out at job sites and various other things that need to be done. On Mother's Day, at the current Habitat site in Iowa City, it was a Women Only Day at the build. Amy had to be there and Mom, Amber, and I decided that it would be a good way to spend our Mother's Day. So, we went to Iowa City and worked!
Notice that Mom and Amber chose visors for hats. I chose the nifty fishing type hat!
The address of the house that is going to be built. That is it behind this post. A cement slab and lumber.
Hmmmm.... perhaps I should have taken the nifty fishing type hat off prior to putting the hard hat on! My name tag said, "Dawn, Amy's mom."
I'm quite amazed and proud that my mom could pick that sledge hammer up at almost 75 years of age.
As you can see, we did get some walls up! The brother of the man who will be living here put the flag up as soon as he could.
It was an awesome, fulfilling, fun day. We had a great lunch, which we let Chris go to, then spent the afternoon at the job site. We left earlier than most other people, since we had a 2 hr drive to get back home, but it was worth it. It was an experience that I will certainly hope to have again. Mom is checking into Habitat here, so that we can see what kind of volunteering we can do right here at home. Otherwise, this job will be going all summer and we might have to make a road trip or two to help out in Iowa City again!
Looks like you got a lot done! And it takes a special kind of person to wear a fishie type hat under a hard hat! You look good!
ReplyDeleteKnow that I care so very much and am still praying!
Psalms 31:1-3 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
Praying in Seattle!
ReplyDeletePhilippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Praying!
ReplyDeletePhilippians 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Hope everything's okay there!
ReplyDeleteKnow that I'm continuing to pray!
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
Always keep your eyes on the Lord! Praying!
ReplyDeletePsalms 121:1-2 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Know that I'm always here praying!
ReplyDeletePsalms 121:3-5 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
