It was a busy weekend, but boy!, was it fun!!!! We didn't leave Keokuk until after 5 p.m. on Friday, to head to Omaha, but we had a local guide waiting for us on that end, so getting to the big city late on a Friday night wasn't all that bad. Of course, there was plenty of laughter to be had on the drive to Omaha. We made fun of the woman voice on the GPS...... in fact, we have decided that GPS's should be made with voice options..... like Ghetto, or RedNeck, or Blonde, or, well, you get the idea. That kept us occupied and laughing for many miles, while we tried to vocalize our own version of GPS!
We had an awesome room at an awesome hotel in Omaha. Even tho it was well after 1 a.m. before we went to sleep Friday night, we were up about 7:30 and ready to explore the big city. Well, mainly the zoo! After breakfast at IHOP, we did go to the zoo. We had our local guide with us (A friend of Peg's who lives in Omaha.), so we were in good hands.
The zoo was awesome. I've wanted to go to the Omaha zoo for quite some time, so I was excited to finally get there. We took the Skyfari and saw the zoo from the air. We walked all over and saw all kinds of animals. Then, I started to get a headache. By the time we were in the aquarium I was hurting bad enough that I had to leave and find a first aid station and some Tylenol. So, I missed most of the aquarium and all of the jungle, but by the time that Peg and Shawn were done with those, I was feeling good enough to go through the desert dome.
After the zoo, I had them take me back to the hotel. It was going on 7 p.m. and I still had a headache. I opted out of supper and a night on the town. Instead, I got to experience my own type of heaven. A king sized bed, with about a bazillion pillows, none of which I had to share, and a football game on tv! I only wish I could have stayed awake longer to enjoy it more! : )
Sunday morning was another early morning and no headache for me! Yeah! We went to eat breakfast at a local restaurant that Food Network's Guy Fieri has been to and likes. It was very yummy! Then, we looked around downtown Omaha for a while, saw some local sites, visited a cupcake place that was also on Guy's like list, then headed for home.
Doesn't really sound like a lot, when you put it into words. A 5 hour drive to Omaha for cupcakes and the zoo? Hmmmmm. It was about the zoo and the cupcakes, but it was also about the giggles and the laughter that I mentioned in my earlier post. I can't begin to tell you what we giggled and laughed at. I can tell you that we did those things a lot. Despite my headache, it was an awesome weekend, shared with my BFF.
Peg gave me a ring as we started our journey. On the outside it says, "Live Life". On the inside it says "Be Brave". We both have those rings. We've both survived cancer. And a trip to Omaha. I'm pretty sure we will giggle and laugh our way through many more adventures, kind of like we've done for the past almost 40 years. I wouldn't expect anything less from us!
Some day you've gotta keep drivin' and head up north...and west...Sorry your poor head decided to misbehave! Just think of the trouble you could have gotten into if it had felt better!
ReplyDeleteStopping by to let you know I'm still here praying!
Psalms 61:1-4 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
Lifting up prayers right now.
ReplyDeletePsalms 37:39-40 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
You're in my prayers!
ReplyDeletePsalms 130:1-2 Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
